I am writing to nominate Rowena for the DAISY Award, as she has been an extraordinary nurse during my father's extended stay at Rush. Rowena has provided exceptional care, going above and beyond in both technical and personal aspects.

From the moment she began caring for my father post-operation, she demonstrated her keen knowledge and attentiveness. She noticed a change in his output after a walk and promptly paged the doctors for a consult. Although we had to wait over eight hours for the consult, Rowena tirelessly pursued other avenues and advocated for my father. Her vigilance led to the discovery of an internal bleed, which was subsequently fixed surgically. Rowena's quick actions, advocacy, and presence during the procedure brought immense comfort to my father during a frightening time.

Rowena's dedication doesn't stop there. She consistently checks on my father, even when she isn't assigned to his room. My father often says that when Rowena enters the room and smiles, it feels like the windows are being opened, filling the room with sunlight – and she's wearing a mask! This speaks volumes about the positive impact of her presence on her patients.

Furthermore, Rowena ensures that our family feels taken care of and well-informed. Being in the hospital can be a vulnerable and scary experience, but Rowena does everything she can to help us navigate it with dignity. We feel incredibly fortunate to have had Rowena's support, and Rush is truly lucky to have her on staff.
