I would like to nominate Mrs. Conraths from the anesthesia nursing team for the DAISY Award. Before my oncological procedure, I was very anxious. Even days beforehand, I could barely sleep; I was agitated and full of worry. The upcoming anesthesia and the procedure were weighing heavily on my mind. This made the memory of a previous visit to the urology outpatient clinic all the more meaningful to me—a visit during which Mrs. Conraths from the anesthesia nursing team had already assisted with my anesthesia. That experience left a very positive impression on me, so I specifically requested to be cared for by her again for the subsequent procedure.
From the very beginning, Mrs. Conraths came across as responsible and completely trustworthy. With her calm, clear manner, she instilled a sense of security in me and made me feel that I was in good hands. Her high level of professional competence was evident at all times—every move she made was precise, and every explanation was clear and professional. I was particularly impressed by her empathy. She sensed my tension without my having to say much. With a small, humorous gesture—she winkingly referred to the medications prepared for induction of anesthesia as a “gentlemen’s set”—she managed to put a smile on my face. That moment made a big difference: I was able to face the anesthesia with much greater ease and felt emotionally supported. Throughout the rest of the procedure, I also felt very well cared for. The collaboration with the anesthesiologist seemed calm, respectful, and well-coordinated, which further strengthened my sense of security.
At this point, I would also like to mention that the anesthesiologist was friendly and attentive. I am a registered nurse myself and worked in the operating room of a large hospital for over 40 years. I am very familiar with the challenges, responsibilities, and high stress levels of this field. That is precisely why I know how extraordinary it is when professional excellence, human warmth, and a genuine sense of professional purpose come together in this way. Mrs. Conraths not only provided me with professional care, but also gave me trust, calm, and confidence in a very stressful situation. To me, she embodies, in a special way, everything the DAISY Award stands for.
