She addressed my fear with confidence, making me feel safe and comfortable.
I recently underwent a significant surgery. Waking up in the PACU with so many patients was disorienting and frightening. My assigned nurse, Aparna, helped me a lot immediately during the onset of pain and with my fear of surgery. In recovery, it was her voice that I heard first. “Hello, how are you? You are in PACU, and your surgery went very well. I am Aparna, your PACU nurse. I will be right here with you." These words immediately diffused my rising anxiety. She didn’t rush me and allowed me to slowly orient myself. She continuously monitored my vitals.

Suddenly, a burning pain began to radiate from my surgical site. She noticed my pain and assessed my pain level without delay. She provided me with pain medication and explained what this medication is for and what effects I would expect. And at the same time, she adjusted my headrest, gently repositioned my arms, and positioned my bed properly. Each assessment was well taken, and she kindly explained my condition and made me feel better and more comfortable. She addressed my fear with confidence, making me feel safe and comfortable. Aparna assessed the surgical site and made sure that pain was reduced and also, she ensured continuity of care by proper handover.

For her unwavering commitment to patient-centered care, I wholeheartedly recommend Aparna for the DAISY AWARD. Overall, I would like to thank her for her involvement and care for the successful surgery and the recovery. I won’t forget her in my lifetime.
