Brianna always smiles and is able to help other staff, which gave me confidence in her.
The past few months have been extremely difficult due to numerous hospital admissions. Fortunately, this was my second time on unit 3400 meeting Brianna. Although I was not assigned to her one day, she came to greet me with sincere concern. Many days during the week, she cared for me as if I were her family member. Specifically, I will always remember the care she showed me when I was in pain.
One morning, she was extremely busy due to a code on a patient of hers. She still cared for me with a smile, never rushing me. That day was very hard as my pain medication was not effective. She said she would not leave until a new order was written and given. Despite her explaining the issue, the order was not clearly written and could not be given. Frustrated and very behind in her work, she spent endless time contacting a new physician to rewrite the order. I was upset and crying, and she was extremely kind and reassuring.
After she gave me the new med, she had to stay late to complete all required documentation. Brianna never complained that day or any other day when she was busy. I also observed her kindness to my roommate, who had multiple issues and was often frightened. It seemed to me that everyone on the unit relied on her for her advice as well as clinical questions. To some, that can become a burden, but never her. Brianna always smiles and is able to help other staff, which gave me confidence in her. She told me about her education from an associate degree to a BSN and MSN. That alone is a major accomplishment and shows a strong interest in enhancing her knowledge base. She has board certification and a strong interest in both learning and teaching. I am extremely fortunate to have met her. To me, she is an example of what a nurse should be.
