From making sure that he didn't get cold, to keeping him aware of the doctor's delays due to emergency surgery, allowing him to walk around in order to keep his legs from going numb, and even taking him up on the offer to dance, Megan kept Dad calm when he was most scared.
From the minute Megan walked into the room, we knew this was a special nurse. She was smiling and joking with her patients while making sure that they knew what steps were coming up. Even when the surgeon was delayed on another case, she would report back, making sure we knew we weren't forgotten. The best part was when my 78-year-old, scared father needed to use the restroom; she offered to take him. They kept walking into each other, and he jokingly said, "If this keeps up, you're going to have to dance with me." And don't think that Megan didn't step up and take a "spin" with the gentleman!! She was everything my dad needed that day: a great caregiver, a confident voice, an advocate for all her patients, and a gentle friend during a stressful time. You can see how much Megan loves her job, and how much her patients mean to her. She is an absolute blessing.

My father has had several years of health issues, and the blockage in his vertebral artery was the scariest. There were several factors that made this procedure especially scary, but Megan was with us every step of the way. From making sure that he didn't get cold, to keeping him aware of the doctor's delays due to emergency surgery, allowing him to walk around in order to keep his legs from going numb, and even taking him up on the offer to dance, Megan kept Dad calm when he was most scared. She also had an infinite amount of patience for his "non-clinical" daughter. I was never made to feel like I was being difficult or that my questions were too much. As someone who works in the hospital but isn't patient-facing, she made sure I understood everything, taking my worry to a reasonable level. Finally, when everything was done, she made sure that my diabetic dad didn't have to worry about his blood sugar crashing. She had a tray planned, and it was there in minutes, full of protein and good carbs. She even kept him company as he was eating. Megan's skills, kindness, and sense of humor made what would have been a scary situation manageable. Medical procedures are never "enjoyable,” but having her as dad's nurse definitely was!
