I'd like to share my appreciation regarding Chrissy, RN. She discharged an AVR patient yesterday, and she advocated for the patient and made sure everything was in order before the patient was sent home.

Despite the primary MD and case managers stating, "He can just see his primary and dose his coumadin", she knew it was not safe and knew he needed to be enrolled in a clinic for proper coumadin care. It is so easy to pass the responsibility around or settle and say, "Sure, okay," and send the patient home. But not Chrissy. She called the cardiologist, went back and forth with case managers, and called the CT surgeon just to see who could manage the coumadin long term.

At one point, the case manager asked Chrissy to call the coumadin clinic herself! But she made sure this patient would not go home unless this was settled. She persevered. And you know what? She did it. I know Chrissy. She is a wonderful nurse. I appreciated her perseverance, advocacy, and knowledge to send her patient home safely. When you know you worked so hard to do the right thing, the result is so much more appreciated and heartfelt.

Thank you, Chrissy. You were his nurse for a reason.
