Gianna Capellini was nominated by a former patient from our Mother & Baby unit. The mother wrote:

I delivered my son via C-section. To say I was traumatized by my experience would be an understatement, but the experience I had during my recovery made me appreciate the importance of compassion in healthcare that much more. I’ve been a nurse for 10 years, and while empathy and caring are components of our profession, once in a while, you will stumble across a nurse who will completely embody our profession.

I arrived at the mother-baby unit after getting an unplanned C-section and pushing for four hours. I’ve never been the patient, and it was a very humbling experience to be so dependent on other people when usually it’s the other way around. I truly believe it was fate that we were assigned to Gianna Capellini that night we were admitted. From the foggy first moments of post-anesthesia to the morning we were discharged, we had the utmost faith in her. She was so prompt, kind, and caring.

I felt so vulnerable in those moments, and there was something about Gianna that reassured me I still had my dignity. You can just tell she is someone who really loves her job by the way she carries herself and the way she cares for her patients. While I’m still left to deal with a boatload of emotions from my unexpected experience, I am so grateful that the path we were led down brought us to Gianna.

Thank you for taking care of our little boy. We will never forget you!
