We will always remember Allie and the way she treated us.
Twice, my husband needed the services of the ER. We were so fortunate to have Allie as our nurse! She was so calming for us as she explained everything so well. She took the time to find common ground with us by asking what we did for a living.
My husband farms, and she connected with us on that criterion, as her dad also farmed and raised cattle. To someone else, this maybe isn’t the job of a nurse. But for us, it was a very important step in our care and comfort level. She had a way of making us feel like we were going to be ok. A “perk” for us was that she shared many similarities with our daughter, who also works nights.
Now fast forward 7 months, and we are back in the ER. The nicest nurse gets us checked in. She is looking for common ground during her assessment. She is asking the usual medical questions, plus what do you do for a living, etc., and she tells us about her dad. Then, it clicked! It was our Allie! Once more, she demonstrated tremendous professionalism, compassion, concern, kindness, caring, and we felt like we had someone to get us through this visit.
She explained to us what the situation was and how we likely were going to handle it; she asked us to turn on the nurse call light when the surgeon came in to visit with us. She was interested in his opinion and suggestion, but she was tied up with another patient and got into the room at the tail end. She heard the plan and was just fantastically reassuring.
When my husband was going into surgery, she escorted me to the waiting area, she had called security to take my car to the front of the hospital (another gift), and she showed me the vending machine and restrooms, etc. I believe that she had been called in extra to work because the ER was so full that morning. I believe that God put Allie there that day (as well as the surgeon and his team) to help us down the journey. We will always remember Allie and the way she treated us. It meant more than I can explain.
Thank you, Allie!
