Our son was admitted to the hospital after a recent illness led him to refuse all food by mouth. As parents, we didn’t know what to do in order to keep our son thriving and well. We went to Dell North Campus’ ER and were admitted to the acute care wing.

Although we weren’t complete strangers to the hospital setting, having our child not eat for 12 days made us very nervous about what could be done to help him. While everyone from charge nurses to GI doctors to the cleaning team was great, one specific nurse stood above the rest: Cameron quietly came into our room with a big smile on her face and immediately greeted our son, introduced herself, and explained how she was going to help him!

She then addressed my husband and me in the most loving and kind way. She intently listened to my concerns, addressed each and every single one in detail, and always asked if there was anything she could get us. She would say what the night would look like in terms of drawing labs, or flushing an IV, and when she would be back in the room. She was always there when she said she would be. On the rare occasion that I needed something and she wasn’t in our room, I would hit the call light, and she would respond right away.

It was easy having Cameron as our nurse; it even had me looking forward to nights because I knew we’d be talked to so compassionately and all our concerns would be addressed. I also admired that when Cameron had difficulty finding my son's vein for labs, she brought different methods to keep trying; she didn’t give up or push it to another shift. She went and got a colleague, and they worked together, sharing the work of finding my son's tricky veins. Someone who knows their patient could benefit from a second set of eyes is great in my book. Because of Cameron and her approach, our son had a pleasurable hospital experience, and we have her to thank for that!

Keep up the amazing work you’re doing, Cameron, and keep using those God-given talents of yours to serve Him!
