n a setting that can feel isolating and overwhelming, Anja has provided warmth, compassion, and a sense of stability that has meant the world to our family.
I am honored to recognize Anja for her extraordinary care, compassion, and dedication in the NICU.
Our son was born at 31 weeks with a known congenital heart defect that would require surgery, and he also suffered a brain bleed during birth. Both of these challenges have brought tremendous anxiety as we navigate life in the NICU and worry about his future health.
Throughout this journey, Anja has been a constant source of comfort, strength, and reassurance. She was with us on one of our hardest days, when we received the devastating news that our son may need a shunt due to his brain bleed, just a day before his heart surgery. She was also there the day we took him into surgery, providing not only expert care but genuine compassion and calm when we needed it most.
Even after our transfer out of her unit, she continued to check in on him, showing that her care extends far beyond her assigned patients. Since our return to the NICU, she has cared for our son most days, and her consistency has brought us immense peace.
She treats him with such gentleness and love, celebrating his progress and comforting us through setbacks. In a setting that can feel isolating and overwhelming, Anja has provided warmth, compassion, and a sense of stability that has meant the world to our family.
She embodies everything a nurse should be: skilled, empathetic, and deeply human. We are endlessly grateful for the care she gives to our son and the support she’s given to us as parents during this incredibly difficult journey.
