Rita Odonkor: The Mother of Nurses

DDNS Rita Adarku-Kai Odonkor is a distinguished clinical leader and mentor whose transformative influence has earned her the title “Mother of Nurses” at UGMC. As the Deputy Director of Nursing Services for the Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU), she anchors her practice in evidence-based, patient-centered care and the highest standards of post-operative safety.

She is celebrated for her hands-on leadership style, often working directly at the bedside to support junior staff and ensure every patient experience is a positive one.

Madam Rita’s impact extends far beyond clinical supervision; she has implemented a sustainable mentorship system designed to foster discipline, accountability, and clinical competence across the nursing workforce. A true visionary, she composed the UGMC Nurse’s Anthem and serves as a role model in clinical governance, even contributing multiple articles to the facility’s nursing magazine, “NursCape”.

Her dedication to upgrading nursing standards and her selfless commitment to staff empowerment make her an exceptional pillar of the healthcare community.
