Most of the nurses we’ve encountered here at Makati Medical Center have been friendly and caring, but she went beyond what was required of her duties.
My grandmother is already 92 years old. She had spent three days in another hospital and one day in the MakatiMed Emergency Room before being transferred to her current room. Because of several injections for blood and medicine, she had grown very wary — almost afraid — of any painful injections. Every time she would see a nurse, she would immediately think she was about to be injected again.
One afternoon, my grandmother became very agitated and even tried to kick my aunt, who was with her in the room. When she tried to calm her down, my grandmother thought she would be given another injection. In that moment, she almost hit her head when she kicked.
The nurse was understandably shocked — but she remained calm and patient. With my help as her grandson, she was eventually able to comfort and appease my grandmother.
What touched us deeply was what happened after. In the following days, she chose to be assigned to my grandmother again. This time, my grandmother was more relaxed and calmer — she had slowly won her heart. She continued to be patient, gentle, and caring with her.
At one point, she even shampooed my grandmother’s hair, knowing she hadn’t been able to bathe for almost a week. Most of the nurses we’ve encountered here at Makati Medical Center have been friendly and caring, but she went beyond what was required of her duties.
She formed a special bond with my grandmother — one built on trust, compassion, and genuine care. I truly hope she continues to share her exceptional kindness and commitment with more patients in need.
