Whenever Lori is your charge, you know it is going to be a good shift - she checks on her nurses multiple times throughout the shift, making sure that everyone is okay and feeling supported.
Lori Boyle's cheerful attitude, fun activities, and listening ear have an impact on the PICU at large. It is truly such a better place to work because she is in it. Lori is considered by many to be the mom of the PICU, and, like any mom, we could not imagine working there without her. She is empowering - a teacher, problem solver, creator of change and growth, and just someone that once you see their face, you know you and your patients are safe.

Lori demonstrates the CHOP leadership competencies by first always leading by example. Lori holds herself to an extremely high standard and always leads with professionalism, respect, and empathy. Therefore, those around her naturally follow suit. She promotes an environment of respect and understanding through her actions and her words. We have seen Lori have multiple difficult conversations, whether with fellow nurses, members of the medical team, or patients and their families. Throughout the conversation, she maintains her composure, ensuring every party can have its voice heard. She works with everyone involved to reach a solution that works best for all while always keeping each individual's best interests in mind.

Nobody encourages an individual to reach their full potential as Lori does. She sees the best in every single person. The PICU can be challenging, but with Lori, you can make your chaotic room a little calmer and more organized, and use your resources to provide better care to our patients. Whenever Lori is your charge, you know it is going to be a good shift - she checks on her nurses multiple times throughout the shift, making sure that everyone is okay and feeling supported. If one of her nurses is ever having a rough shift, she is the first to remind them how awesome they are and that they absolutely can accomplish whatever they are finding difficult. When you see Lori, sometimes the words just start flowing out from the safe environment she fosters, and sometimes getting those few words off your chest makes all the difference.

Lori leads her staff with grace and knowledge. Whether it's helping with basic tasks, troubleshooting creative solutions to nursing barriers, answering any and all questions, or supporting staff through difficult social and emotional situations, you know Lori will be there with her endless enthusiasm.

Lori is the leadership liaison for the PICU SPM committee, and we wouldn't be able to accomplish a quarter of what we do without her. Lori wants the best for the PICU and all the nurses who work here. Lori is the recognition queen of the PICU. She has created numerous initiatives to better support our PICU nurses and make the PICU's hard days a little easier. She created some positive events, such as You Matter Mondays (a positive note sent out each Monday), helping to create EMBER (our new bereavement program), and PICU merch and events. Each month, Lori compiles a list of every star-of-the-shift nominee and enters their name into a raffle for a chance to win a gift card, as well as a special email shout-out to the entire PICU.

Through these things, people say they feel a lot less burnt out (the hardest part of being a PICU nurse), feel closer to their peers, and are happy with their positions at CHOP. Lori contributes to the positive, helpful, and engaging floor that makes our unit, and we feel lucky to have her in our leadership. She is an incredible nurse, coworker, and friend. Thank you, Lori, for everything you have done for the PICU! We all love you.
