Her compassion reached me at one of the lowest points of my life and brought me comfort I will never forget.
I was admitted to Hillcrest Hospital following a lumbar spinal fusion. Jennafer was working the night shift on my second night — a night I will never forget.
The pain from my surgery was far more intense than I ever imagined, and that second night was the darkest moment of the entire experience. I was overwhelmed, exhausted, and honestly terrified. I had never felt pain like that before in my life, and I felt completely vulnerable and scared of what was happening to my body.
When Jennafer came on shift, everything changed. She immediately sensed my fear and didn’t rush past it. She stood beside me, looked me in the eye, and took the time to reassure me that I was going to be okay. In that moment, her calm presence alone felt like relief.
While every nurse and support staff member I encountered was kind and professional, Jennafer gave me something much deeper — safety, comfort, and peace when I desperately needed it.
Jennafer didn’t just take care of me medically; she took care of me as a person. She noticed I could not sleep and thoughtfully made sure everything I needed was placed within reach so I wouldn’t risk hurting my spine. She adjusted my bed, checked in often, and paid attention to the smallest details that made a huge difference. Most importantly, she took time to talk with me, one-on-one, and treated me like a human being — not just another patient in pain.
That night, Jennafer made me feel like I wasn’t alone. She made me feel like I had a friend watching over me, someone who genuinely cared about how scared, uncomfortable, and vulnerable I felt. Her compassion reached me at one of the lowest points of my life and brought me comfort I will never forget.
She turned what was unquestionably the worst night of my hospital stay into one of the most meaningful. Because of her kindness and empathy, my fear disappeared, and for the first time that night, I felt safe enough to rest.
I am profoundly grateful to Jennafer and the care she provided. Her compassion, patience, and humanity made an impact far beyond medicine, and she will always be a part of my recovery story. Hillcrest Hospital should be incredibly proud to have someone like her caring for patients at their most vulnerable moments.
