My mom was being held in the ER as there weren't any beds upstairs. Miss Jazmine was there during the nighttime. During that shift, we were called to let us know that mom had not been doing well, and her condition had declined. When we arrived, Jazmine had been in the room getting medicines for mom, letting us know that the provider would be in. We decided to make mom comfortable.
It was a busy night, but it felt like my mom was the biggest priority to this nurse. Not only was she taking care of our mom, but she also asked if we needed anything. My mom passed in the morning after we had left, but we were told that Jazmine stayed past her shift to hold our mom's hand, so she wasn't alone when she died. That's why we think she deserves recognition.

Jazmine had been taking care of a patient for 10 hours of her 12-hour shift. The gentleman had dislocated his shoulder and received conscious sedation to repair the dislocation. The gentleman had a drop in blood pressure, which stayed low, and Jazmine diligently and expertly monitored his pressure and titrated medications to keep his blood pressure stable.
Using her nursing assessment skills of an experienced nurse Jazmine could tell something was not well with this patient and that he needed more attention. She alerted the doctor of her concerns and pressed the urgency in the reassessment of the patient by the MD working in the ER that day before his transfer to another hospital for increased level of care.
While one might say this is the common and expected skills of an Emergency Room nurse, it was not just her assessment skills as a nurse that were impressive; it was the way that she conducted herself with the patient by staying calm to keep the patient calm. She conducted herself in a professional and diligent way while showing compassion to the gentleman. She compassionately talked to him to check on his responsive status, made a joke or two to keep him calm and a smile on his face during a fearful time. She also stayed by his side and committed to the patient and would not allow anyone to take over care when she and the patient "put in a shift together" as they shared.
Jaz had said that day that she needed her people to help her and to help her learn. More people could learn a thing or two from Jazmine from her care and compassion that she showed to that gentleman, and the other patients who are lucky enough to call her their nurse.
