Abigail coordinated with other nurses so the patient could be closely monitored at all times.
My family member had been admitted for several days before showing some improvement, until Abby became the nurse. She checked on the patient often, came into the room anytime there was a change in condition, brought anything that was needed, and raised appropriate suggestions to the care team with physician approval. When the patient was able to shower for the first time, instead of calling for someone else, Abby got fresh sheets and a towel and made the bed herself. Abby took care of the patient and every request with care. She truly cares about her patients and their care. She is attentive, professional, and caring. I felt very comfortable leaving my family member in her care, and after Abby’s shifts, the patient improved enough to be discharged.

I would like to nominate Abigail, a day-shift nurse on B5 at Jefferson Methodist Hospital, for the DAISY Award in recognition of her compassion, clinical skill, and dedication to both her patient and family. During my family member’s hospitalization at Jefferson Methodist Hospital, Abigail was the primary daytime nurse. The patient’s condition made care especially challenging and added significant complexity to treatment and safety. Despite these challenges, Abigail consistently demonstrated compassion and proactive care. She anticipated risks before they became problems. For example, she applied preventive measures without being prompted, showing her attention to patient safety. One of the greatest challenges was that the patient repeatedly attempted to remove necessary medical equipment due to confusion. Each time this happened, Abigail calmly and creatively found a solution. She adjusted and secured the equipment, and when that was not sufficient, she added other measures to help prevent interference. To further support safety, Abigail coordinated with other nurses so the patient could be closely monitored at all times. Her solutions were effective and carried out with patience, dignity, and respect. Because of Abigail’s thoughtful and attentive care, the patient’s condition stabilized quickly, and discharge followed soon after. What truly sets Abigail apart is that she cares not only for her patients but also for their families. During this stressful time, I was overwhelmed. Abigail took the time to comfort me, answer my questions, and provide clear, useful information to support care after discharge. Her reassurance meant a great deal to me. Abigail consistently goes above and beyond what is expected of a nurse. Her compassion, problem-solving ability, and dedication reflect the spirit of the DAISY Award. Jefferson Methodist Hospital is fortunate to have Abigail on its team, and it is with gratitude that I nominate her for the DAISY Award.
