Josselyn drove to the FedEx location in Willmar on a Saturday to get the medication and came to our facility to administer the medication to keep her out of the hospital.
A patient had been hospitalized for about a month due to a new diagnosis of ITP. She had been discharged with orders for a new medication to be received as an outpatient the following week. Throughout the month-long hospital stay, the patient trialed multiple different medications and multiple dosages. This particular medication is what was found to work for this patient. The Prior Authorization for the medication was initially denied. Josselyn worked with the department providers to set up a Peer-to-Peer to appeal the denial. When the time came for the Peer-to-Peer, the insurance company provider no-showed. Josselyn then reached out to ask about setting up another time frame. The insurance company provider no-showed the HealthPartners Oncology/Hematology provider again! The provider escalated the lack of response and partnership from the payor to our payor relations team, while praising Josselyn for her diligence in identifying the next step and setting things up. In the meantime, the patient's labs were trending downward, and rehospitalization was being considered. Josselyn continued to communicate with the provider in an effort to have the Prior Authorization appealed. The appeal was overturned, and the Prior Authorization got approved. Josselyn drove to the FedEx location in Willmar on a Saturday to get the medication and came to our facility to administer the medication to keep her out of the hospital. The provider wrote in his Ovation to Josselyn, "If she had not been so persistent in working out what this patient truly needed, I don't think the treatment would have happened." Josselyn truly went above and beyond to ensure our patient had what they needed. Her actions kept a patient out of the hospital and home with her family.
