My grandfather was going for an EGD after being hospitalized for about a week, related to a fall. We had had concerns for over a year about cognitive decline and were struggling to get anyone to listen to us. Courtney Peiffer caught that they had allowed him to consent to his own procedure, and received in the report that he was alert and oriented. This had not been the fact throughout the entire hospital stay.

When she contacted my mom, who is POA, she said that even within 5 minutes of talking to him, she completely understood our concerns and had the physician and anesthesiologist talk to my mom and get a true informed consent for his procedure. Not only did Courtney make us feel validated in our concerns, but she also put safety at the forefront of patient care. She could have easily let it go; however, she went above and beyond. We very much appreciate her dedication to doing what is right and her validation of our concerns during a very frustrating stay. Thank you so much!
