I was seen at the ER. I was diagnosed with the flu and sent home near dawn. My nurse, Kristi, was most attentive to my pain and brought a warm blanket.

I was contacted at home at 10 am and told to return to the ER as soon as possible. My wife took me back, and I was immediately put into an exam room where nurse Kristi greeted me with a smile and said, “Welcome back.”

I was confused and scared, but nurse Kristi provided some comfort to my wife and me when I was advised about my blood infection. My mother had leukemia, and this news scared us, but we were comforted by nurse Kristi because she saw how we were with this news. A little research by Kristi led to explaining my disorder and how treatment might go. This attention to our fears is very commendable.

Her experience in nursing care shows that her patient and family contact is out front and caring, as sometimes that is put to the side because the staff is too busy to use those calming talents during care.

I was admitted to the hospital thereafter, and my wife was given info on my admission. I was transported to the hospital floor after a brief thank-you to Kristi. We will never forget her nursing care during the two same-day ER visits.

I told her she should get some kind of care award, and she was very humble and said she really doesn't need awards. Let's get her one because she deserves the attention. Thank you for listening.

My blood infection is now history after 60 days of care.
