When I arrived at Carrier Clinic, I was angry and skeptical. My nervousness stemmed from being a nurse, from being embarrassed, and even from being ashamed. During this time in my life, I needed privacy, peace, and solitude. So I could work on my depression, anxiety, and alcoholism. One exceptional nurse created a space for me to do just that. I want to nominate Anna Marie for a DAISY Award. There are many nurses in this world, but not many like Anna Marie. Anna Marie nurses with grace, patience, professionalism, and knowledge. She listens to her patients and educates them. She can be trusted in her nursing judgement and is a great team player. There were times when my assigned nurse was not available, and Anna Marie was willing to check my vital signs or answer my questions. Anna Marie is also a patient advocate. The most significant moment I had with Anna Marie was when I noticed nursing students I knew on the unit. Anna Marie was compassionate toward my situation and had the students removed for my privacy. This gesture brought tears to my eyes, my anxiety was alleviated, and I felt safe once more.
