When physician explanations felt limited, Taylor helped provide clarity by explaining the nature of my infection and what the clinical notes meant, which significantly reduced my anxiety.
During my hospital stay, I experienced a great deal of fear and uncertainty, largely due to not fully understanding why certain things were happening or what the next steps in my care would be. Taylor made a truly meaningful difference during this time. Taylor was the most relatable nurse I had while hospitalized. She was direct, clear, and honest in a way that was extremely helpful for me. She took the time to answer countless questions from both my mother and me, often re-explaining information we had already heard, without ever making us feel rushed or burdened.
When physician explanations felt limited, Taylor helped provide clarity by explaining the nature of my infection and what the clinical notes meant, which significantly reduced my anxiety. She was also highly attentive to my emotional and physical well-being. If I became quiet for any length of time, she checked in on me. When my IV began leaking extensively and soaked the bed, she responded calmly and efficiently, helping turn a frightening situation into a manageable one. She also recognized when anxiety was affecting my vital signs and helped put me at ease, even using light humor to prevent me from becoming more distressed.
Beyond her clinical care, Taylor made an effort to connect with me as a person. Simple moments such as sharing lighthearted conversations about television preferences helped me feel human during a very overwhelming experience. At one point, she told me that while she did not want me to leave, she wanted me to be able to go home, a sentiment that deeply resonated with me. Taylor’s professionalism, honesty, compassion, and attentiveness made me feel genuinely seen and cared for during one of the most uncertain and emotionally challenging periods of my life. I am deeply grateful for the care she provided.
