She’s the kind of nurse who will drive you nuts sometimes, but she’s the one I want to take care of my family and me when in need. Siobhan has cared for my father many days over his 11-day stay. Siobhan found many things that needed to be changed and fixed to promote his healing and care. My father is not an easy patient, can’t see, is totally deaf, has a tracheostomy, and a feeding tube. These issues require lots of time doing his care. I know Med Surg has been very busy and has had many patients. Siobhan never hurried, always took her time, and never cut any corners. She wrote everything to him on his whiteboard and waited for him to respond. She made him get into the chair and go for walks to help him heal when he didn’t want to. My father is very stubborn and bull-headed, I’ll be the first to admit, but there was just something about her that he responded to. Her smile, her patience with him, and her caring from the heart did it. With all his issues, she made him feel normal and never left that room until he was informed of everything and had everything he needed. I was sitting in my office, and I heard someone yell my name. I got up and looked, and there they were, she and my dad walking down the hall to see me. That was huge for him to walk that far after such a long hospital stay. He also needed that mentally; he needed to get out of the little room with 4 white walls. The smile on his face I’ll never forget. I truly believe she’s an angel in blue scrubs and is the most deserving of this award.
