You know that with Denise in charge, every decision will be thoughtful, equitable, and rooted in-patient safety and staff support.
I would like to nominate Denise Samuels, RN, for the DAISY Award because she represents the very best of what nursing can be. When Denise is the charge nurse, the tone of the entire shift changes. She brings a calm, organized, and fair leadership style that immediately reassures both staff and patients. You know that with Denise in charge, every decision will be thoughtful, equitable, and rooted in-patient safety and staff support. Denise is consistently hands-on. She never hesitates to assist with direct care, no matter how busy the unit is. Whether it means jumping in to help with admissions, answering call bells, or handling complex patient needs, she leads by example. She often sits with 1:1 patients herself, completing her own assessments and vitals to help reduce the workload of the nurse technicians. Her willingness to share the load, rather than delegate from a distance, sets the tone for true teamwork.
One of Denise’s strongest qualities is her advocacy. She stands up for her patients, nurses, and NTs, especially in moments when others may feel unheard or dismissed. Denise communicates with physicians assertively and professionally, even when faced with condescending or challenging behavior. She is unwavering in ensuring that patient needs come first and that the nursing team’s voice is respected. Her courage in these moments strengthens the entire unit. As a senior nurse and active member of the Quality Council, Denise brings deep clinical knowledge and exceptional judgment. She is always willing to teach, answer questions, and support newer staff. Her insight into policy, workflow, and best practices helps elevate the quality of care across the unit. She consistently seeks ways to improve outcomes and create a safer, more supportive environment. Working with Denise is truly an honor and a privilege. She embodies dedication, integrity, compassion, and leadership. Her presence makes the unit stronger, safer, and more cohesive. Denise is the kind of nurse who inspires others to practice at their best.
