The son expressed his deep gratitude for Hailey thinking of him and connecting with him in that moment.
I want to write a note of gratitude and call out Hailey and the Care Techs for their compassionate care for a patient and family. Hailey's timeliness and compassion, and the two Care Techs' heart and being present in a hard and sad time made a big difference for our patient and his son.

Hailey was aware that our patient was likely in his last moments and knew it was hard for the son to not be able to be there. She called our patient’s son and had him on the phone, and was updating him on what they were seeing as our patient’s heart rate was declining. The Care Techs were there holding his hands so he would know he was not alone.

In a reflection of compassionate timeliness, after our patient heard his son's voice saying he loved him and it was ok to go be with God, from this nurse holding up the phone and knowing that our patient was a person of faith, we encircled him and offered a prayer. It was during that prayer that our patient died.

The son expressed his deep gratitude for Hailey thinking of him and connecting with him in that moment. He also knew how, in a hard and sad time, it was an encouragement to his faith.

I trust you know many of the good hearts of your team, but I just wanted to call out these team members for taking an extra step to provide not only excellent medical care to keep our patient physically comfortable, but also taking an extra step to tend to the emotional and spiritual being of our patient and his son in a heart-wrenching and sad time.

Especially in his son's life, I trust that their care will have lasting effects, providing healing and comfort.
