I am honored to nominate Vivian for the DAISY Award in recognition of her exceptional care, advocacy, and commitment to her patients, particularly in how she went above and beyond to support a patient on home inotropes. This patient, who had recently experienced a significant decline in health, had been struggling with anxiety and fear regarding his condition, his medications, and how it would affect his ability to enjoy the activities he loved, such as gardening.

Vivian demonstrated extraordinary compassion and professionalism during every interaction with this patient. Not only did she take the time to thoroughly educate him about his heart condition and new medications, but she also made it a point to listen carefully to his concerns and address each one with patience and empathy. Through clear and calm explanations, she helped him feel more in control of his situation and reduced much of the anxiety that had overwhelmed him.

Perhaps most notably, she took it upon herself to advocate for this patient when it became clear that the medication administration method was limiting his quality of life. Understanding how important gardening and physical activity were to his emotional well-being, she worked tirelessly with the medical team to arrange for a different line to be used for the inotrope delivery. This change allowed the patient to return to the activities he cherished, significantly improving his mental and emotional state during an incredibly challenging time.

What truly sets Vivian apart is her ability to make a personal connection with each patient, ensuring they feel heard, valued, and supported in every aspect of their care. Her actions reflect a deep commitment to patient-centered care and a belief in treating the whole person, not just their medical condition.

For these reasons and many more, I believe she is a shining example of the qualities the DAISY Award seeks to recognize. She has made an incredible impact on this patient’s life.
