Recently, one of our long-term patients’ fathers experienced a sudden medical emergency and was admitted to the ICU at a nearby hospital. This family, who has been coming in and out of our hospital for many years, and whose daughter was currently an inpatient, reached out to our nurse manager with a heartfelt request: could their daughter visit her father in the ICU, and could Lauren be the nurse to facilitate this? Lauren immediately stepped up. She met the patient’s mother and walked her and the patient down the street to the ICU—ensuring the patient could see her father while still being safely monitored and cared for. Throughout this time, Lauren stayed with the family, offering support, reassurance, and care, going far beyond her normal duties to make sure the patient and family felt safe and supported during a very stressful time. Lauren is the kind of nurse who radiates calm, kindness, and warmth in every interaction. She has an incredible ability to put patients and families at ease, even in the most stressful situations. She consistently goes above and beyond, not just providing excellent medical care but also offering emotional support when it is needed most. Lauren embodies the very essence of what it means to be a nurse. Her selflessness, compassion, and unwavering dedication make her more than deserving of the DAISY Award. She truly puts her patients and their families first, and her extraordinary heart shines through in every act of care.
