My husband was awaiting a transplant. We had several wonderful nurses on this unit! But this caregiver stood out and went above and beyond nursing; Matthew was always there to explain things to us in layman's terms so we understood what was going on. My husband had the best care with him; Matthew  was on top of every buzz, beep, or movement that was made. He took the time to make us feel comfortable during our stay, and he always helped me keep all the doctors coming in and out straight and what they were there to check.

My husband passed away, and Matthew was our nurse that day also. He really helped us during that very horrible day of our lives! He explained everything as he did it and assisted us in the after-care process. He deserves this award as he is much more than just a nurse! This wonderful person also became a friend, a shoulder, and part of our family during a very difficult time in our lives. I will forever be grateful to Matthew !
