Maggie Kelly represents the very best of nursing. She is exactly the kind of nurse you hope to have when you're scared, hurting, and vulnerable.
Maggie Kelly is a float nurse at Penn Princeton Hospital, and during my five-day stay on the Pediatric Floor, she made an overwhelming and painful experience feel safer, calmer, and more manageable. From the moment she walked into my room, Maggie was warm, personable, and genuinely present. She didn't just "do her job," she connected with me as a person.
Throughout my hospitalization, Maggie provided excellent education and clear explanations about the tests being ordered, what my labs meant, and why certain medications were being given. She took the time to make sure I understood what was happening and what to expect next, and she never made me feel rushed or dismissed. As a nurse myself, I know what exceptional care looks like-and I can honestly say I don't think I could have provided better care than Maggie did.
What stood out the most was how Maggie responded when I was at my lowest. There were moments when I was extremely emotional because I was in so much pain. Maggie went above and beyond to advocate for me-she contacted the doctors, pushed for changes when things weren't working, and helped get new medications ordered so my pain could finally be controlled. She stayed on top of everything and followed through, not just once, but continuously, with the kind of persistence and compassion that makes a patient feel protected.
Even in the hardest moments, Maggie found ways to bring light into the room. She made me laugh when I didn't think I could. She reminded me that I was more than my symptoms and helped me feel like myself again. That combination of clinical excellence, strong advocacy, patient education, and heartfelt kindness is rare.
Maggie Kelly represents the very best of nursing. She is exactly the kind of nurse you hope to have when you're scared, hurting, and vulnerable. I will never forget the care she gave me, and I believe she is truly deserving of the DAISY Award.
