Our family will forever be grateful for the care he received, and much of that gratitude is because of Becca.
I am writing to enthusiastically recognize my son’s oncology nurse, Rebecca Walker, for the extraordinary compassion, skill, and dedication she has shown our family during the most difficult times of our lives.

When our son was diagnosed with lymphoma, our world was turned upside down. In the midst of fear, uncertainty, and exhaustion, Becca immediately became a steady source of comfort and strength, not just for our son, but for our entire family.

Her kindness went far beyond clinical care. Becca took the time to truly see our son as a person first, not just a patient. We never once doubted that she truly cared for my son and our family. Becca was there for us with genuine kindness and compassion from the initial uncertainty of what we were dealing with through the end of the difficult treatments.

She had a remarkable ability to know whether he needed a lighthearted, fun conversation to keep him in a positive mindset or quiet reassurance when he was feeling overwhelmed by the process and needed to internalize. No matter the type of interaction, Becca's huge heart shone through.

Becca always did a great job answering any of our questions in a way that eased our fears, while also bringing calm and reassurance during moments of pain or anxiety. She never rushed us, always listened, consistently advocated for his comfort and well-being, and always asked if there was anything we needed.

I did not realize until the end of the treatments how much Becca eased my own fears during the treatments. I never once had to question whether my son was in good hands. The combination of her top-notch nursing skills and compassion allowed me to concentrate on his emotional needs during treatment without ever having to worry about the medical side. I knew he was in the very best hands with Becca, something for which I will be forever grateful to her.

Our family will forever be grateful for the care he received, and much of that gratitude is because of Becca. If a DAISY Award represents extraordinary nursing care, I can't think of a nurse more deserving.

The compassion and care she gave to him and our entire family are appreciated in a way that simply can't be put into words. There is no doubt in my heart that our family would not have been able to navigate this heartbreaking, difficult time as well without her.

Most importantly, I know my son would not have responded as well to his treatments physically or emotionally without Becca's care and without him knowing that she genuinely cared about him. I have no doubt he felt the love and compassion that Becca genuinely exuded, and this gave him continued strength even when the treatments became very difficult for him.

It is an honor to nominate Becca for this recognition due to her grace, empathy, professionalism, and beautiful heart. Our family will forever be grateful for her.
