Madaline is an excellent professional nurse and embodies everything the DAISY Award is meant to honor.
I would like to recognize Madaline Jarrell, who cared for my wife during her stay in the Clinical Decisions Unit. From the very beginning, Madaline demonstrated exceptional empathy, attentiveness, and professional excellence that made a profound difference to her and our family during a challenging week. Madaline consistently checked in on my wife, asked how she was feeling, and tended to her needs before she ever had to voice a concern. Her presence was calm, steady, and reassuring — the kind of presence that eases both patient and family anxiety. Her care was never rushed or routine; it was intentional, compassionate, and grounded in genuine human connection.
What truly distinguished Madaline was her commitment to patient advocacy. After several days in the CDU, she recognized how much a full shower would restore my wife’s comfort and dignity. She arranged for her to use a shower in another part of the hospital — a gesture that required initiative, coordination, and a deep understanding of the emotional and physical needs of her patient. This was not a small act; it was a moment of kindness that reflected her character and her dedication to holistic care. These qualities were not reserved for my wife alone. I observed Madaline extend the same generosity, hospitality, and professionalism to other patients in the unit. Her empathy is consistent, her standards are high, and her dedication is unmistakable.
As a Nurse Educator, I have the privilege of working with many excellent nurses. Madaline stands among the very best. Her practice reflects the highest ideals of our profession — compassion, advocacy, clinical excellence, and respect for patient dignity. Madaline is an excellent professional nurse and embodies everything the DAISY Award is meant to honor. Tampa General Hospital is fortunate to have her on the CDU team.
