I would like to nominate Jennifer Forgac for a DAISY Award. Today, Jennifer had a patient who had a sudden change in her neuro status. The doctor was in the room as Jennifer entered, and they immediately called a Rapid Response. Jennifer recognized that this was possibly a Code Stroke and immediately knew the next steps. The ICU nurse, Jennifer, and the doctor brought the patient to the CT department and connected with the tele neurologist. Jennifer was calm, professional, and communicated the event with the tele-neuro doctor. The CT was performed and read by tele-neuro immediately. The decision to transfer the patient to the ICU and ultimately Overlook for further treatment was made. Jennifer gave a succinct handoff and ensured that the transfer to the ICU was completed. She kept the patient and family informed about the situation empathetically, alleviating their concerns about this sudden change in condition. Jennifer’s quick response to this rapid deterioration was potentially lifesaving for the patient. The transfer to the ICU and initiation of medications to treat her bleed were seamless. Her poise and compassion for the patient and family throughout the process were extraordinary to witness. Jennifer acted with grace under a stressful situation and never let her patient or her family members doubt that every intervention was being provided while we were waiting for transport to OMC.
