Molly’s care made this patient’s hospital experience more humane, more loving, and more bearable. She consistently goes above and beyond expectations, not because she has to, but because giving her whole heart to her patients is who she is.
Molly is the very embodiment of what this award is designed to honor, a nurse whose compassion, skill, and dedication go far beyond the ordinary and have profoundly touched the lives of her patients and colleagues.
She doesn’t view nursing as just a job; it is her calling. She consistently demonstrates deep empathy, unwavering patience, and exceptional clinical skill in every interaction. She meets not only the physical needs of her patients, but their emotional and human needs as well, truly exemplifying the highest ideals of nursing.
A specific patient stands out whom Molly and I cared for together. A woman who spent nearly two months in the hospital after a life-altering diagnosis. She went well beyond her clinical duties to provide individualized care that brought dignity, comfort, and joy to this patient’s life.
Paying attention to personal needs, Molly took time to bring hair supplies she purchased to the hospital so she could tend to this patient’s severely matted hair, a simple yet profoundly uplifting act that helped restore a sense of self-respect during an incredibly difficult hospitalization.
On another day, she took significant time out of her busy schedule to assist this patient into a wheelchair and take her for a walk around the pond. In coordinating this with a focus on safety and comfort, Molly gave her a moment of peace and normalcy. The patient’s joy was palpable when the breeze caught her gown, and it felt like a cape. In that moment, she lit up with pure delight as she was a real-life superhero. That small bit of joy in a long, hard journey was something she had not felt in a very long time.

“I would like to take a moment to recognize a nurse on your staff. Her name is Molly. This young lady is the definition of first-class care! I was recently shocked when I was diagnosed with lung cancer. Molly was my nurse through this journey many times. She is a bright light in the dim room! She not only made sure my medical needs were being met, but also my emotional needs. It is not just a job to her. It’s her giving spirit to share. I could go on and on about the things she did. Just know you have a pure diamond on your staff. Thank you!”
