Nicole exemplifies the heart of nursing through her compassion, professionalism, and dedication to patients, families, and colleagues.  Recently, Nicole cared for a patient admitted with "Broken Heart Syndrome."  The patient had called 911 for her husband, who was suffering a massive heart attack.  As EMS was preparing to leave with the husband, she developed chest pain and was also rushed to the hospital.

During their stay, Nicole was assigned to care for the wife. When Nicole learned that her husband's condition was critical and he was not expected to survive, she immediately took steps to ensure the couple could share a final moment together.  With empathy and determination, Nicole coordinated with multiple departments so that the wife could visit her dying husband.

While speaking with the family, Nicole discovered that the husband was a veteran.  Understanding the importance of honoring his service, she quickly organized the recognition he deserved through hospice care, and even stayed past her shift to ensure that the ceremony and final moments were handled with dignity, respect, gratitude, and love.  

Not only does this moment exemplify Nicole's compassion, but it also reflects how she approaches her work every single day.  She brings kindness and professionalism to every patient interaction and extends that same care to her coworkers.  Nicole precepts students and new nurses with patience and enthusiasm, fostering growth and confidence in others. She builds positive relationships with patients, families, and staff, creating an environment rooted in trust, teamwork, and genuine caring.
