She noticed every detail — my discomfort, my fear — and without hesitation, advocated for pain relief, protected my dignity, and reassured me throughout.
Ciara arrived shortly after the birth of our baby girl, and from the moment she walked in, my partner and I felt an immediate sense of calm and reassurance. While labour care is often recognised, Ciara showed us just how vital compassionate aftercare truly is. I had sustained three Grade 3 tears, lost a significant amount of blood, and was confined to bed awaiting theatre. Ciara’s knowledge, confidence, and gentle explanations helped turn a frightening situation into one I could cope with. She noticed every detail — my discomfort, my fear — and without hesitation, advocated for pain relief, protected my dignity, and reassured me throughout. Having previously experienced a molar pregnancy and blood transfusion, my fear felt very real. Ciara listened, understood, and created a space where I felt safe to be honest. From that moment on, she never left my side. She wheeled me to theatre, explaining every step in simple terms and holding my hand the entire time. When my partner became faint, Ciara instinctively cared for him, me, and our baby all at once, never losing her calm presence. After theatre, she ensured I was comfortable, encouraged us to rest, and cared for our daughter Aria herself. Waking to see Ciara gently soothing my baby remains one of my most treasured moments. Over the following days, Ciara continued to go above and beyond — remembering my fears, supporting us both, and doing everything possible to help us get home for Christmas. At midnight, she discharged us and wished our new family a Merry Christmas. I feel honoured to have had Ciara as my midwife. I will be forever grateful that she was my daughter’s very first friend. Thank you, Ciara — you truly are exceptional.
