My wife had major surgery for liver cancer. From the time Allen invited me into the PACU to see my wife, he was a model of professionalism, kindness, and empathy. It was clear that he was technically competent as he efficiently did the many tasks required for closely monitoring my wife. But he did so with a calm manner—explaining what he was going to do and why.

If my wife had a choice between options, he clearly explained the choices. At other times, it seemed he knew exactly what she needed. E.g.- A warm blanket or the warm air-blown, before she asked. We had to stay longer in the PACU because the bed on the 10th floor wasn’t ready. He explained the situation and kept us informed frequently. That helped ease our anxiety about next steps.

My wife and I were clearly upset about her diagnosis and surgery, but having Allen be the first person we encountered greatly put us at ease.
