Max brings extraordinary care, empathy, and heart to his role.
I am pleased to recognize Maxwell Long for his exemplary dedication and patient-centered approach to care.
During a busy shift change, a patient was being transported to an inpatient rehab hospital. She had a suitcase filled with personal belongings, but the transport team was unable to take it due to liability concerns. The family lived too far away to retrieve it that evening.
That's when Max stepped in, not because it was required, but because it was the right thing to do. After finishing his shift, Max personally drove to the rehab facility and delivered the suitcase to the patient himself. He made sure she had everything she needed to start her next phase of healing with dignity and comfort.
Max shows this every day. Whether it's comforting a worried family member, advocating for a patient's meds, or going out of his way to protect their well-being.
Max brings extraordinary care, empathy, and heart to his role. These unselfish acts are why he deserves to be recognized.
While rounding on a patient yesterday. We were deeply moved by the story he shared about Max. The patient stopped us to express just how profoundly Max had impacted his life. Two years ago, this patient was in a very dark place, struggling with alcohol and facing serious medical issues as a result. During one of his hospital stays, Max went far beyond his clinical duties.
After his shift had ended, Max took the time to sit with the patient and simply talk. He listened without judgment, offered support, and helped the patient explore resources and reflect on his struggles with addiction.
What stood out most was how Max shared personal things he has gone through with individuals in his life and words of encouragement that helped the patient see his own potential. That conversation became a turning point. After speaking with Max, he made the decision to get sober and has remained sober for two years.
When the patient saw Max again during this visit, he was overcome with emotion. He gave Max a big hug and told him that Max's compassion and willingness to connect with him on a human level changed his life. His empathy, dedication, and willingness to go above and beyond made a lasting impact on this patient's health and future.
