A Grateful Heart for an Exceptional Nurse

We arrived at Mayo Clinic scared and unsure of what lay ahead. We knew my husband had a lesion on his femur, but we never imagined they would also find something on his lung. The fear of the unknown weighed heavily on us.

On our second day, we made our way up to 3E. Emotions were high. All four of our grown children had come to be with us, leaving behind their own families to offer comfort and strength.

That day, we met Yanny, our day nurse, and everything changed.

Yanny was with us for 12 hours, and in that short time, she made an unforgettable impact. Being close in age to our children, with similar interests, she connected with us on such a personal level. She showed incredible compassion, reassured us during one of the most difficult days of our lives, and brought a sense of calm that made the unknown more bearable.

When her shift ended, it didn't feel like goodbye. It felt like the beginning of a special friendship. Though Yanny is a floater and wasn't assigned to 3E again, that didn't stop her from continuing to check on us. She would stop by our room just to give a hug, offer encouragement, and simply chat. She took time out of her day without obligation just to be there for us.

God truly puts the right people in your path when you need them most. Yanny was that person for us. Her presence was a gift during an overwhelming time, and we are forever grateful.

Mayo Clinic is incredibly fortunate to have a nurse like Yanny representing its mission and values. She made a lasting difference in our journey, and we will never forget her.
