I wanted to recognize one of our CICU nurses, Soyette Fraser, for the exemplary care she provided to a patient and their family. Unfortunately, we took care of a patient who suffered a severe brain injury after cardiac arrest. This generous patient was an organ donor and subsequently was taken to the OR for organ procurement. During that period, Soyette and I cared for the patient and his family while they sat by his side in the OR, as we palliatively extubated him. Soyette was calm and very comforting to the family. She was attentive to the patient and assured him was in no pain or distress in his final moments. This was a very difficult situation to be in, caring for a dying patient with his entire family right alongside him. Soyette did an incredible job. She should be very proud of herself for her dedication to her patient and their family that night.
