She not only went above and beyond caring for this patient, but she also tried to make the grieving process easier for his family by showing love and kindness to the son.
A patient was nearing the end of life, and the family was at the bedside. One of the patient’s children was having a difficult time dealing with the situation and was becoming emotionally overwhelmed, which created some tension with the rest of the family.
Mallory stepped in and had the son sit with her outside the room, and she entertained him and kept his spirits up. The patient was still on the unit after shift change, and I saw Mallory walking with the son around the Circle of Hope to keep him occupied. She not only went above and beyond caring for this patient, but she also tried to make the grieving process easier for his family by showing love and kindness to the son. She took extra time and care with this patient as well as his family.
