Alexis went above and beyond in every possible way. Her kindness, calm presence, and genuine care made one of the most stressful, emotional, and beautiful days of my life so much better.
Visitor:
Earlier this week, my younger sister went into preterm labor. She was first taken to the assessment center and then moved to labor and delivery for observation, where she stayed overnight. The next morning, her doctor came in and told us that we would be meeting her baby that day.

My sister is a Type 1 diabetic, and throughout her pregnancy, she experienced issues with her blood pressure dropping and even passing out unexpectedly. We knew this made her labor especially high risk, so as you can imagine, our whole family was nervous.

She had a wonderful nurse during the day, but at shift change around seven that evening, Alexis came on duty — and that’s when everything changed. The difference in my sister’s confidence, comfort, and overall spirit after Alexis began supporting and coaching her through labor was incredible.

My sister’s progress was slow being in labor for nearly 36 hours. Alexis immediately jumped into action, positioning herself in different ways to help move the baby down. Previous nurses had noted that the baby didn’t tolerate one particular side well, but Alexis carefully explained that spending some time in that position was important to help the baby descend. She monitored both mom and baby closely the entire time, keeping everyone safe and calm.

With my sister’s diabetes and history of blood pressure drops, Alexis did an amazing job keeping a close eye on her vitals — her blood sugar, blood pressure, and oxygen levels. Later, when it came time to push, my sister’s heart rate began to rise significantly, and Alexis stayed right by her side, keeping her calm, focused, and safe. She also made sure that my mom and I understood what was happening and reassured us that my sister was okay. That meant the world to us.

Throughout the process, Alexis answered every question we had with patience and kindness. When my sister became overwhelmed and started to cry, Alexis sat beside her and said, “You can do this. You were made for this. Everything’s going to be okay. You are going to push this baby out.”

Those words — and the way she said them — gave my sister the strength she needed to keep going. Alexis guided her with confidence, compassion, and skill, and helped her safely deliver her baby in the OR.

Alexis made a lasting impact not only on my sister’s birth experience but on our entire family. Her care, empathy, and attentiveness turned what could have been a frightening, high-risk situation into one filled with strength, calm, and hope. She is truly deserving of the Daisy Award.

Patient:
My labor and delivery experience was far from what I had imagined. I went into preterm labor at 34 weeks, and to say I was terrified would be an understatement. I had so many questions and worries for both myself and my daughter, and my anxiety was through the roof.

When Alexis came on as my nurse, everything changed. She immediately brought calm and comfort to the entire room. She talked and laughed with me, my husband, my mom, and my sister as if she had known us for years. She made sure I was comfortable, that every question I had was answered, and that my family and I had absolutely everything we needed.

During delivery, things became even more challenging. My epidural was working so well that I couldn’t tell if I was pushing correctly, and I started to feel discouraged. Alexis noticed right away and stepped in with so much patience and compassion. She coached me through each push, encouraged me when I felt defeated, and never let me lose faith in myself.

Alexis went above and beyond in every possible way. Her kindness, calm presence, and genuine care made one of the most stressful, emotional, and beautiful days of my life so much better. She treated me not just as a patient, but as someone she truly cared about—like family.

Even after delivery, when my daughter had to be admitted to the NICU, Alexis continued to support me. She answered every question I had, and if she didn’t know the answer, she made sure to find it for me.

I will forever be grateful to Alexis for turning such a frightening experience into one filled with compassion, reassurance, and strength. She is truly the definition of what a nurse should be, and I couldn’t imagine having gone through that day without her.
