She brought out one of her family's old guitars, had it restrung, and he played it to lift his spirits.
This Nurse had been taking care of a man who was on the transplant list for a liver. He had been in the hospital for about a month. She took care of him at his sickest and worked tirelessly to make sure he was well enough to have this transplant. She was taking care of him the day he got the news that his donor transplant fell through. She knew that he enjoyed playing music, and his family also played music in church. So she brought out one of her family's old guitars, had it restrung, and he played it to lift his spirits. His face lit up, and you could tell he was extremely thankful for this surprise.
Later, she took care of him again on a different shift when he got the news he was getting a liver that night on his birthday. She was caring and diligent in her care, staying with the family the whole time. She even went down to the waiting room while the family was there to reassure them and make sure they were doing okay. She also checked on him later once he was allowed visitors and made sure he was okay. She demonstrates what it means to be a nurse and why we do what we do. She goes above and beyond for her patients. She deserves to be recognized for it. For the impact she makes on her patients and her coworkers. I'm lucky to work with her.
