He spoke to my fiancé with dignity and strength, helping him feel like himself — not just a patient attached to monitors.
I am honored to nominate Omar for the DAISY Award for the extraordinary compassion he showed my fiancé during his cancer surgery and recovery. At such a young age, facing an aggressive cancer diagnosis is terrifying. The hospital felt overwhelming and heavy, but Omar changed that atmosphere the moment he entered the room. He was warm, present, and deeply personable. He spoke to my fiancé with dignity and strength, helping him feel like himself — not just a patient attached to monitors. What truly set Omar apart was a gesture we will never forget. He brought us coffee from his home country of Jordan. In the middle of one of the hardest weeks of our lives, he shared a piece of his culture and his story with us. After sitting together, sharing coffee and hearing about his home and traditions, we both felt normal again for the first time since the diagnosis. My fiancé is a true coffee lover, and trying a special coffee from another country genuinely excited him — the first thing in a long time that brought that spark back to his eyes. Seeing him smile in that moment meant more to me than I can express. Omar didn’t just provide excellent clinical care. He created a sense of connection, belonging, and humanity in a place that can often feel sterile and isolating. That simple act of sharing coffee became a moment of healing we will always carry with us. He embodies everything the DAISY Award represents — skill, compassion, cultural humility, and heart. We are forever grateful for Omar.
