Kristen showed exceptional leadership and compassion during a moment that could have easily overwhelmed any parent.
When my son was brought to the ED for altered mental status, Charge Nurse Kristen Metzbrown was the one who handled his intake and prepared the trauma room. From the moment we arrived, she set the tone for a calm, controlled, and organized response during a very stressful situation.
Kristen moved with confidence and purpose, making sure everything was ready for my son and the team before we even stepped into the room. It was clear that she knew exactly what needed to happen, and she made it happen fast. She communicated clearly, kept the process smooth, and made sure our family understood what was going on.
What stood out even more was the way she balanced everything happening in the department. I could see the level of coordination and the amount of chaos she was managing outside our room, yet she kept full control of it. Despite the workload, she still came in to check on us, make sure we were comfortable, and ensure we had what we needed.
She did the same for the other patients and families, never once showing frustration or rushing through anyone's concerns. Kristen showed exceptional leadership and compassion during a moment that could have easily overwhelmed any parent. Her ability to manage a busy ED while still being present for us says everything about the type of nurse and leader she is.
