English Translation:

My mother passed away recently in the ICU at the CUN. We requested that the funeral chapel be set up within the clinic itself—a request that was granted. Those were two very sorrowful days, during which it was difficult to find solace or think clearly.

However, there was a guardian angel—Itziar Luquin Iturmendi—who looked after us every step of the way.

She ensured that there was never a shortage of tissues to dry our tears. She also made sure that we always had water available. She saw to it that the flowers were always arranged just right; and when we were leaving, she told us not to worry—that she would personally take care of delivering them to the administration office, the hermitage, or the oratory.

Furthermore, she ensured that my mother looked beautiful. She had been brought from the funeral home wearing heavy makeup—something she never did in life—and seeing her that way was quite jarring, as we struggled to even recognize her. Itziar took it upon herself to gently distract us all while, with great care, she removed the excess makeup, restoring my mother’s natural beauty and making her recognizable once again.

No detail escaped her notice. Thanks to her warmth, spirit of service, dedication, and quiet competence, she transformed our time at the CUN—during those incredibly difficult days—into a true source of solace.
