As a nurse manager, I have the privilege of witnessing many acts of compassion and excellence—but few have moved me as deeply as the story shared by a family.

Nathaly exemplifies the very heart of nursing. The family shared how, even when she wasn’t scheduled to work, Nathaly took the initiative to communicate updates on M. J.'s condition in their language. Her calm voice and genuine empathy eased their anxiety during an incredibly fragile time. Her proactive communication and unwavering dedication gave them strength when they felt they had none left.

Nathaly didn’t just care for their premature daughter in the NICU—she carried the entire family through their darkest days. She treated M. J. with the tenderness of a mother and the precision of a master clinician. She treated the family like her own.

What stood out most was Nathaly’s selfless act of coming in on her days off to provide updates in Spanish—not only on M. J., but also on L.—ensuring the family never felt lost or alone. As they expressed so beautifully, “Your dedication and empathy meant the world to us.” Her empathy, clinical skill, and quiet strength made them feel safe in the midst of fear.
