A call came in for a patient who was being brought in from a nursing home for shortness of breath. During the ambulance ride, the patient began to decompensate, and by the time they arrived here, the patient was Agonal breathing, DNR, DNL.

Dr. K called the son to make him aware of his father's condition; the son stated he was about 30 minutes away. Meanwhile, Amanda Abbott got the patient a pillow, made him comfortable, and was witnessed sitting at the bedside with the patient while he took his last breath, so the patient did not have to be by himself during those last moments. These are the things that often times go unnoticed.
