Her presence changed the entire tone of my hospitalization. I felt safe because she was there. I felt heard because she made sure I was.
I would like to recognize my nurse, Kylie, because she brought compassion, clarity, and true patient advocacy to a challenging hospital experience after 30+ days of being in pain.
I was admitted with severe, persistent pain after more than one unsuccessful treatment. By the time I arrived at the unit, I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and frustrated. She was the first person who truly listened—not only to what I was saying, but to what my symptoms were telling her. When my pain or nausea medications were not effective, she immediately advocated on my behalf, speaking directly with the medical team and ensuring I received appropriate relief. That single act made a profound difference in my ability to rest and heal.
What set her apart was how deeply she invested in my understanding and comfort. After every doctor’s visit, she returned to my room to go over what had been said, checking to make sure I understood the plan through the nausea or pain. She caught things I was too sick to notice and made sure my questions were answered, even when I did not have the energy to articulate them well, or they came up hours later. She gave me a sense of control at a time when I felt completely vulnerable.
Throughout my stay, she balanced her clinical skills with remarkable kindness. She never once rushed me, dismissed my concerns, or made me feel like a burden. Instead, she showed patience, empathy, and steady reassurance, qualities that meant even more because I did not have family with me during my stay. It was clear she cared not just about my symptoms, but about me as a person.
Her presence changed the entire tone of my hospitalization. I felt safe because she was there. I felt heard because she made sure I was. She is exactly the kind of nurse the DAISY Award exists to honor: someone who provides extraordinary, compassionate care when patients need it most.
I am deeply grateful for everything she did for me, and it is my sincere honor to nominate her.
