She gives every patient the benefit of the doubt and truly treats them as if they were her own.
It is with pleasure to nominate Camay Betty for a DAISY Award. Camay consistently goes above and beyond for patients and families on 4 Atrium. She leads by example in providing exceptional care. We had a long-term patient, Mr. H, on our unit for several months, and you'd often see Camay sitting at H's bedside either during or after shift, talking to him about life, shaving his face, or clipping his nails. H was elated whenever he saw Camay. When H was discharged, Camay visited him at the skilled nursing facility and kept our team informed of his progress. She visited him until he was ultimately discharged from that facility. Fast forward to this week, when Camay helped another one of our long-term patients, Ms. B, who was worried about her son. Camay was able to track down B's son, who was previously a patient at Broward Health, with the help of our case management team. She reached out to the facility he was discharged to, only to learn he had been transferred to another facility. Camay called that facility to confirm he was there and arranged a FaceTime session between him and B using our unit's iPad. B was in tears of joy while Facetiming her son. Interestingly enough, the facility needed clearance to retrieve her son's medications, and it worked out that B's sister was nearby to give clearance since our B is often disoriented. That's right, she was admitted with an altered mental status, making it even more difficult for Camay to track down her son, but she never gave up. You'll often find B at our nurses' station, sitting next to Camay, who likes to invite B to play her assistant. It keeps our B calm and distracts her from trying to elope. Camay never discriminates, whether the patient is oriented or confused, younger or older. She gives every patient the benefit of the doubt and truly treats them as if they were her own.
