Compassion is at the heart of everything Amanda does. She leads with empathy and integrity, serving as a role model for ethical behavior and patient-centered care.
Amanda exemplifies the essence of extraordinary leadership, consistently fostering an environment built on trust, compassion, mutual respect, and professional growth.
She leads a team of 15 Quality Improvement Analysts who serve as informal leaders across the hospital, and through her guidance, they play a pivotal role in disseminating quality improvement (QI) methodology, bridging bedside teams and leadership, and implementing evidence-based practices that improve patient outcomes throughout the organization.
Amanda's expertise and tireless efforts ensure that QI principles are integrated into daily workflows, that patient needs are accurately identified, and that problems are addressed in real time. Her work behind the scenes might not always be visible, but its impact is felt across the hospital in improved outcomes, streamlined processes, and a stronger culture of quality. She has played a key role in decreasing catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs), central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), and unplanned extubations in the ICUs, as well as preventing adverse drug events. Amanda's leadership directly contributes to the hospital's mission to provide the safest and most effective care to every patient.
She is deeply respected for her accessibility and responsiveness to her team's needs. She leads with an open-door policy and creates a culture where staff feel valued, empowered, and supported. Her compassionate leadership style ensures her team's emotional well-being while fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Amanda encourages the Quality Improvement Analysts (QIAs) to voice their ideas, tackle challenges collaboratively, and grow professionally under her mentorship.
She is also a fierce advocate for bedside nurses, working tirelessly to remove barriers that hinder their ability to provide exceptional care. Amanda played a pivotal role in bedside nurses attending Quality Academy. She advocated for this professional development opportunity and collaborated with leadership and the CNO to ensure that non-salaried staff were eligible to attend. Whether it involves streamlining workflows, addressing resource limitations, or improving communication between departments, Amanda's efforts help create an environment where bedside nurses can focus on what matters most: their patients.
Her ability to foster a culture of inquiry is unmatched; Amanda uses her deep knowledge of evidence-based practice (EBP) to teach and inspire nurses to incorporate EBP into their daily work, ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients. She empowers nurses at all levels to ask questions, seek solutions, and embrace innovation in their practice.
Compassion is at the heart of everything Amanda does. She leads with empathy and integrity, serving as a role model for ethical behavior and patient-centered care. Her ability to coordinate best practices across units and her commitment to excellence have a profound and lasting impact on the quality of care delivered to patients and families.
Amanda's team has expressed how much they value her leadership:
"Amanda is always available to listen to the QIAs, and she is so supportive of our work as we try to push forward in new ways in our units. She allows me to figure out when I can advocate for myself and when she can help provide support. I have grown as a nurse so much under her leadership. She also advocates for work-life balance in this role, which can quickly become overwhelming due to the multiple projects we support in our unit. She is truly the embodiment of a DAISY Nurse Leader."
"We love learning from Amanda; she is a wealth of knowledge. Her leadership style makes us feel seen and comfortable asking questions. Amanda has always advocated for our needs, no matter how difficult the situation, with grace and professionalism. I hope to be just half of the nurse, leader, and person that Amanda is one day."
In our eyes, Amanda is a true safety superhero. Her leadership, knowledge, and unwavering commitment to excellence inspire those around her and elevate the care provided at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital. It is an honor to nominate Amanda Mock for the Nurse Leader DAISY Award, as she embodies the very best in nursing leadership and continues to make a profound difference for our team, the organization, and the patients and families we serve.
