Amanda has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication as a nurse educator in her work on both the PHO (Pediatric Hematology Oncology) and PMAC (Pediatric Medicine Acute Care) units. One of her most nurturing and exceptional qualities is the amount of time she spends in person with her staff, ensuring they are learning in a safe and supportive environment.

She regularly comes in early or stays late into the evening to spend time with orientees, preceptors, and staff who need educational support or mentoring. I could tell you many stories. One story that stands out is about a nurse resident who transferred from PCICU to PMAC. Amanda took extra time to ensure she had a smooth and successful transition.

Going from the ICU setting to acute care was a big change, but Amanda made sure the nurse resident felt welcomed. She checked on her regularly and collaborated with the CEFs to provide an ongoing structure of support and to make sure she was adjusting ok to the change. Amanda paired her with strong and caring nurses who helped her feel right at home in her new unit.

Amanda has developed a wonderful, collaborative relationship with the CEF team. She collaborated with the CEF team to ensure all staff on 7A were prepared to care for patients with high-flow nasal cannula, which was a new skill for acute care. She continuously communicates the learning objectives and goals they need to know to provide additional education and orientation support to PHO and PMAC staff members, but she also cares about each CEF feeling supported in their role as well.

She is responsive to their questions and provides follow-up in addition to making herself readily available to them at any hour. Amanda deeply cares and connects with her peers and staff. She shows this by remembering the small details people tell her about their lives, and she follows up to see how things turn out, whether it's a vacation, caring for aging parents, or sending your child off to college for the first time.

Amanda's genuine nature makes everyone she spends time with feel valued and cared for. Amanda's love for learning can be seen in many ways, including the specialty training programs she leads, such as Ictal Spect, peritoneal dialysis, and chemo classes. She is a member of the CPHON (Certified Pediatric Oncology Nurse) National Board and supports education for the Commission on Cancer accreditation in addition to serving as a Contact Hours Planner for Monroe Carell continuing education.

Amanda's impact inspires those she serves and will influence pediatric nursing for years to come.
